Cities where home values have fallen the furthest from their 5-year peak — bargain hunters' shortlist (with the caveat that 'falling' is sometimes the start of a longer slide).

These are markets that ran up, then gave back substantial ground. Buyers might be getting in at a relative discount versus where prices were 12-24 months ago.

Important caveat: 'discount from peak' is not the same as 'about to recover.' Verify local fundamentals — population, jobs, inventory — before assuming the trend has bottomed.
